Steel Prices UK ("we", "us", "our") operates steelprices.co.uk. This policy explains how we handle your information.

What We Collect

When you visit our site, our hosting provider (Vercel) may collect standard server logs including your IP address, browser type, and pages visited. You do not need an account to use the site or the calculator, and calculator inputs are not stored unless you submit one of the forms below.

Price alerts: If you sign up for price alerts we store your email address, optional postcode, the calculation at the time (grade, weight, estimate), your consent timestamp and a one-way hash of your IP address used to prevent abuse. You are only added after clicking the confirmation link we email you (double opt-in), and every alert email carries an unsubscribe link.

Sell requests: If you ask us to put you in touch with a scrap dealer (via the “sell scrap steel” form or the calculator), we store your name, email address, phone number and postcode; what you want to sell (grade, approximate weight, description, timeframe, whether you need collection, and whether you are a household, trade or business seller); our indicative estimate; your consent timestamp; and a hashed IP address. We use this to acknowledge your request and to share your name, contact details and enquiry with up to three licensed scrap metal dealers or buyers we work with near your postcode, who may contact you directly and are each an independent data controller for how they then handle your data. We rely on your consent (the tick box) for this, and you can withdraw it by replying to any email about your request. We record the exact consent wording you agreed to alongside your request. Sell requests are kept for 12 months after the request is closed, then deleted.

Cookies

We use essential cookies only. If we add analytics in the future, we will update this policy and provide a cookie consent mechanism as required by UK law.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Vercel — hosting and content delivery
  • Supabase — database (EU region) for price data and the form submissions described above
  • Resend — transactional email delivery for confirmations and price alerts

Your Rights
